The module has traditionally been delivered by face-to-face teaching but online delivery has been facilitated using the Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard) which has enabled a more blended approach to academic instruction. This innovative change to module provision has also provided an opportunity to enhance the student learning experience within the School through a more flexible teaching and learning environment. In this paper, the design, development and implementation of blended learning into a Construction Technology module ...

Rape Culture.Docx, Lynell Hodge

Lynell Hodge, EdD

Rape culture is a highly contested topic often framed by sexual assault as a central focus. As result, when feminists and social justice activists attempt to have a more expansive conversation to include coercive relationships or street harassment it isn’t always received well. In some cases the conversation is labeled as divisive. Having a rape culture discussion can be already contentious, there is also a subgroup of women who lean anti-rape culture rhetoric. Rape culture requires an understanding of the normalization of violence due to the pervasiveness of sexism. As a result, exploring why women deny rape culture’s ...

Examining Learning Transformation In Project-Based Learning Process, Gary Pan, Poh Sun Seow, Grace Koh

Research Collection School Of Accountancy

This paper presents a learning transformation framework for analyzing how learning evolves during project-based learning process. Here we adopt Lewin’s (1951) change theory as an analytical lens to examine the project-based learning curriculum at a University called UNI-X. This is a major contribution to PBL literature as little is known about the dynamics of learning during PBL process. In fact, the learning transformation framework can serve as the basis for further research in PBL process. For educators, this study provides them with useful insights on how to break project members’ escalating commitment to previous failing ideas and accept alternative ...

Writing center practitioners have long debated whether students writing in their disciplines are better served by generalist or specialist tutors. Recent research has highlighted the benefits of specialization, but training tutors in disciplinary content or specific assignments often proves impractical. One potential compromise is genre training. In this presentation, writing center faculty and tutors from James Madison University shared the results of a RAD research study that explored how tutor training in the genre of literature reviews affected students’ written products and impressions of their writing center consultations. Participants also heard from tutors with genre training and explored possibilities for ...
