Examination Of Two Decades In Used Clothing Trade: The Case Of The United States And Selected Developed Economies, Youngji Lee, Ling Zhang, Elena E. Karpova
This research examined two decades of the U.S. used clothing exports to the world. All countries (209) were classified into four groups based on the level of economic development. Between 1996 and 2012, U.S. used clothing exports shifted away from low-income economies to high-income economies. For the first time, our research demonstrated that the majority of used clothing discarded by American consumers is exported to high-income economies instead of poorest nations of the world. Next, used clothing exports and imports by volume and value in seven high-income countries were analyzed. The high-income countries not only exported but also ...

The Role Of Emotional Expression In Accessing Social Networks: The Case Of Newcomers' Blogs, Michael J. Hine, Luciara Nardon, Daniel Gulanowski
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
Research has established the critical role of social networks in facilitating adjustment to foreign environments. Increasingly, social interactions are happening through computer mediated technology. This paper explores the role of emotional expression in newcomers’ blogs in developing and interacting with social networks in a new country. This research uses a dictionary-based text analytics approach to detect emotional expression in newcomers’ blog posts and their associated discussions. Blog posts with more emotional expression had more associated responses; discussions tended to be more positive than posts; and the relative amount of negative emotion in the discussions increases as posts become more negative ...

Political Science Undergraduate Honors Theses
In an effort to understand the effectiveness of the North American Free Trade Agreement, the author uses previous academic literature to assesses the success of the North American Free Trade Agreement’s primary and peripheral goals. To understand how North American citizens, perceive NAFTA and their future relationship with one another, the author uses survey data to analyze attitudes of American and Mexican citizens towards trade liberalization (NAFTA) and labor mobility. Regression analysis reveals that there is a positive relationship between labor mobility and trade liberalization for Mexican citizens but not for American citizens. This is a significant finding that ...
Venezuela's Collapsed Economy And The Resulting Effect On International Business With The United States, Sarah Caldwell
Senior Honors Theses
This thesis explores the current economic and political state of Venezuela, as well as the factors that contributed to the nation’s present challenges. By evaluating current information regarding international relations and international business affiliations, this study investigates and summarizes how Venezuela’s current instability has affected the country’s trade relations with the United States. Discussion On The Differences Between U.S And Chinese Management Styles, Bazil Cunningham
In an increasingly globalized world, conducting business with leaders from various parts of the world is inevitable. An understanding of the managerial styles of leaders is imperative to the long-term success and influence of an international corporation. This paper will introduce the managerial styles of executives from U.S and Chinese based companies and point out the variations in style that exist. Information received from interviews with Chinese and U.S managers will assist in determining the differences between each style. The synthesis of qualitative research analysis and scholarly data will aid in forming the argument as to whether both ...
Estimating Chance For Success In Shale Gas Development Based On The Case Of The United States, 2019 University of South Carolina - Columbia
Estimating Chance For Success In Shale Gas Development Based On The Case Of The United States, Moira Lennon
Natural gas, commonly extracted through the hydraulic fracturing of shale basins, has the potential to provide an abundant supply of energy that is more sustainable than other fossil fuels. Due to the complicated and risky nature of the hydraulic fracturing process, only the United States has developed the technology on a large scale. However, in the face of increasing global energy demands and vast supplies worldwide in virtually untapped basins, other countries may want to explore the potential development of this industry. Existing literature on Poland, Mexico, and China are analyzed to assess their similarity to the US in regard ...
Wirtschaftswunder: A Study Into The Causes And Catalysts Of The German Economic Miracle, 2019 Liberty University
Wirtschaftswunder: A Study Into The Causes And Catalysts Of The German Economic Miracle, Nate R. Hodder
Senior Honors Theses
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the West German economy to find the reason for “Wirtschaftswunder,” the German economic miracle, and contrast the decisions made after WWII to those made after WWI. The approaches of foreign powers in these periods are also analyzed. After WWI, the subsequent hyperinflation and economic collapse is mainly found to be a result of poor economic decisions within German institutions, although the collapse was almost certainly supplemented by poor foreign policy decisions by the Allied Powers. Wirtschaftswunder was made possible by Ludwig Erhard’s reforms, which are found to have been much more ...
Hedge Funds In The Periphery: An Analysis Of Structures Influencing Fund Behavior In The Icelandic And Cypriot Financial Crises, 2019 University of Pennsylvania
Hedge Funds In The Periphery: An Analysis Of Structures Influencing Fund Behavior In The Icelandic And Cypriot Financial Crises, Jameson K. Mah
Undergraduate Economic Review
Hedge funds are often viewed from a positive or negative lens in the public and academic forum. However, both of these perspectives neglect structuralist factors. This paper analyzes the effect of these antecedent economic, political, and legal structures. I argue that these structures are at the root of hedge fund behavior, particularly during financial crises. The financial crises of two peripheral countries, Iceland and Cyprus, are used as case studies to illustrate how hedge fund involvement diverges as a result of structural factors.

Mindscapes And Individual Heterogeneity Within And Between Cultures, Kamal Fatehi, Ben L. Kedia, Jennifer L. Priestley

Most cross-cultural studies are sociologically based and assume intra-cultural homogeneity in mentality and logic among people. The application of cultural dimensions in many cross-cultural studies has inadvertently contributed to this oversight. Scores on these dimensions are supposed to indicate characteristics of national cultures. The apparent characteristics of cultures are extended to individuals as well. On that basis, we assume that all Americans are individualistic, ignoring those who might have more collectivist mentality and logic. Although some researchers have recognized the existence and importance of heterogeneity within cultures, these issues have not been fully addressed. Experience at the international level and ...
Bean Counters: The Effect Of Soy Tariffs On Change In Republican Vote Share Between The 2016 And 2018 Elections., 2019 Iowa State University
Bean Counters: The Effect Of Soy Tariffs On Change In Republican Vote Share Between The 2016 And 2018 Elections., Olga Chyzh, Robert B. Urbatsch
Political Science Publications
How do trade wars affect presidential support? President Trump's aggressive tariffs on China despite his largely rural electoral support base provide a unique opportunity to analyze the relationship between international trade policy and domestic support. If trade-related considerations were ever decisive to American voters, the stark decrease in soy prices, a direct effect of Trump-initiated tariffs immediately preceding the 2018 midterm election, serves as a critical test for studying their effect. This letter shows a robust inverse relationship between county-level soybean production and the change in Republican vote share between the 2016 and 2018 congressional elections.

Customer expectations can be extremely nebulous. This research identifies the demographic segmentations and their respective expectations for the spa market. Interviews were conducted and a subsequent questionnaire was employed to gather the voice of the customer and assess the expectations of spa clientele. All of the data was collected from luxury spas in Hawaii, and consisted of respondents from all over the world. Results of the survey suggest that while men want more tangible benefits of a spa, women prefer the experiential qualities of peace and rejuvenation. Additionally, those of lower to middle income focus on the atmosphere more than ...
Organizational Culture And Entrepreneurial Orientation: An Orthogonal Perspective Of Individualism And Collectivism, Younggeun Lee, Michael Howe, Patrick M. Kreiser
This study contributes to the existing literature regarding the relationship between culture and entrepreneurship. Building upon the precepts of institutional theory, we examine the influence of organisational culture on firm-level entrepreneurial orientation. While entrepreneurship researchers have emphasised the importance of entrepreneurial orientation for firms, the influence of organisational culture in supporting the incidence of entrepreneurial orientation has not been adequately studied. In an effort to contribute to this emergent area of inquiry, we consider the role of two key dimensions of organisational culture − individualism and collectivism – in facilitating entrepreneurial orientation. In doing so, we illustrate the utility of adopting an ...

Dominion Road In Auckland, New Zealand And Chinese Community, 2019 CUNY Hunter College
Dominion Road In Auckland, New Zealand And Chinese Community, Wendy W. Tan
Publications and Research
Dominion Road, located at Auckland, New Zealand, runs north-south across most of the central areas of the town. It has been known as having a colorful mix of shops and being described as "United Nations of restaurants". However, around the Balmoral town center, Chinese-owned businesses have topped all other ethnic groups, so a proposal to designate this Road as the first Chinatown of Auckland City has been heard. The author did a literature search in this respect and also made a visit to this area. This article (in Chinese) is her understanding of the status quo after this site visit.
