Present Condition And Role Of The Catholic Church In Poland, Alfred Marek Wierzbicki 2018 John Paul II Catholic University

Present Condition And Role Of The Catholic Church In Poland, Alfred Marek Wierzbicki

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

My remarks about the present condition and role of the Catholic Church in Poland are not based on formal sociological research, for I am not a sociologist. I would like just to share some observations and concerns about the situation in which I live as Christian and priest. My report is mostly based on the personal experience, but in spite of the subjective perspective I seek to objectivize my views as much as possible by taking into account a broader context.

Teaching Magis At College: Meaning, Mission, And Moral Responsibility, Marcus Mescher 2018 Xavier University

Teaching Magis At College: Meaning, Mission, And Moral Responsibility, Marcus Mescher

Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal

Jesuit colleges and universities highlight terms like magis to accentuate the specific charism of Jesuit education. But when these words and phrases are separated from their context in Ignatian spirituality and the mission of the Society of Jesus, they risk becoming banal jargon. When magis is properly understood and effectively taught, it provides a fundamental horizon of meaning, calls everyone to partner in the mission of Jesuit education, and empowers faculty, staff, and students to embrace moral responsibility in a world marked by sin and suffering. In the praxis of teaching magis, contemplation, imagination, and vocation discernment are three steps ...

Physicality And Devotion In Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber’S Rosary Sonatas, Roseen Giles 2018 Duke University

Physicality And Devotion In Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber’S Rosary Sonatas, Roseen Giles

Yale Journal of Music & Religion

The Rosary Sonatas of Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber (1644–1704) for solo violin were likely composed in the late 1670s, and were dedicated to the composer’s patron, the Archbishop of Salzburg Maximilian Gandolph von Kuenburg. The sonatas in this remarkable set of fifteen are preceded by copperplate engravings, each depicting one of the mysteries of the rosary. The pieces display Biber’s extensive use of scordatura, an unusual “discordant” tuning, notated with a semi-tablature in which the visual contours of the notation on the page are at odds with the audible contours of the phrases. Biber’s sonatas are ...

To Dust You Shall Return: A Theological Argument For The Human Compost Movement, Sydney N. Ederer 2018 University of San Diego

To Dust You Shall Return: A Theological Argument For The Human Compost Movement, Sydney N. Ederer

Undergraduate Honors Theses

This research paper analyzes Catholic, Daoist, and Jewish beliefs on death, the body, the soul, afterlife, and after death rituals in order to build a connection between these beliefs and human composting practices. It uses these three religious traditions to find support for and recognize potential opposition against the human compost movement. These conclusions are in turn used to make a claim for human composting. Thorough research and a careful analysis of religious beliefs and traditions surrounding death and the body provides theological support for human composting as a recommended method for body disposal after death. Therefore, this research is ...
